How to Maximize Your Energy Savings
Energy Saving Your business can save a significant amount of energy – and money - thanks to all the technological advances made by the HVACR industry over the last 20 years. Since heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment can account for more than 35% of a commercial building’s energy usage, we want to be sure you’re saving all the energy you can. We’ve greened our own operations, and can provide you with some tips.

Consider Using Energy Star Equipment

Energy Star qualified light commercial HVAC equipment uses 7–10% less energy than standard equipment. Using these products can save your business approximately $3–4 per square foot over the life of the equipment. For example, a 12,000 square foot building using an ENERGY STAR qualified HVAC product could save $36,000 to $48,000.
Maintenance Saves Money

Even if you don’t replace your equipment, you can save 5-20% in energy costs by making sure that it is properly and consistently maintained. Dirty filters and dirty coils significantly increase the load on motors and compressors. This translates into higher energy costs.
Other Energy Efficiency Tips

You can also save energy through your everyday operations practices:
  • Program your thermostats for temperature “setbacks” (lowering the heating temperature in the heating season, or raising the cooling temperature in the air conditioning season) during days or hours when the building is not occupied.
  • Keep furniture and other objects away from the heating and cooling outlets/vents, so that conditioned air can flow freely through the space.
  • On hot and sunny days, close blinds (or other window coverings) to minimize solar heating inside the building.
  • On warm (but not uncomfortably hot) days, if opened windows and/or fans can provide adequate cooling inside your building, use them rather than turning on the air conditioning system.
Reducing Your Energy Use Results In:
  • Lower gas and electricity bills
  • Decreased power plant emissions
  • Reduced greenhouse gas emissions
  • Cleaner air and water
  • Better public health
  Greening Our Own Operations
At RESSAC, we walk the talk with energy conservation. In addition to maintaining our HVACR equipment well, we are instituting other ways to reduce our energy consumption and make it more sustainable.

We took our first step by offsetting 100% of the electricity use at our corporate office with wind credits to support renewable sources of electricity. We are also investigating other cost-effective investments such as retrofitting our office’s 20-year-old lighting fixtures and reroofing our building with a white, reflective surface coating.
